Former Buffaloes and Uganda Rugby Cranes speed merchant Solomon Okia is said to be headed to Banda to join the Kyambogo rugby team.
Solomon Okia, a student at Kyambogo University himself would be returning to a surface and atmosphere not so unfamiliar to him as he used to run out on the Kyambogo turf when he was a student in Kyambogo College.
Solomon Okia has previously featured for Kyadondo based Toyota Buffaloes before boarding to Nairobi, to join Kenya Harlequins from where he was released from his contract mid-year 2019.
Okia’s services have been highly sought after by various clubs in the country and outside but all shows he is going home – for now.
The speedster has featured for both the Uganda Rugby National 7s and 15s teams and most recently recovering from an injury to be able to ply in the World 7s Challenger Series in South America.
Kyambogo looks like a championship side on the upward and have been able to attract the services of stalwarts like Julius Byarugaba, Kevin Makmot who have helped them into fourth place on the log with 28 points – their most recent result being an away 17-07 win over table-topping Boks.
With rugby in Uganda on a temporary halt as per the government’s directive, Kyambogo hopes the return of games all see them finish stronger than they’d have hoped at the start.
